Dear IEC Friends,

A tradition at this point, throughout the entire week of IEC we had two professional integrally informed visual facilitators next to our main stage, Mathias Weitbrecht and Réka Livits

Click the image to zoom into details.

They applied the live, real-time scribing technology that involves listening, process mapping, emergence, pattern recognition, facilitator neutrality, and of course some drawing skills. In a subtle way as a reflection surface for all participants.

The end result is the large inner topography of the large inner topography conference. Very meta if you think about it.

Each area between the blue lines is a day, with the highlights of that given day’s main stage content.

It fed the stage content as well as interpersonal emergence back into the individual and collect subconscious. Content snippets from one day might merge with what is just happening and heard in another day. An integrally informed Graphic Recording was delivered at all IEC events since 2014, on site or online. Firstly, contributes to the participant experience in real-time. As well as serving as a valuable part of the post-event documentation.

And if you want to also see what the notes were taken of, you can go straight to the source material, watch the keynotes yourself by opting in for one of our Media Packages. Apart from the main stage keynotes, you also get to listen to all of the presentations that happened in the small rooms before lunch:

Mathias Weitbrecht

Germany

He is a global pioneer in the field of visual facilitation. Since 2005 he has developed business models & teams – always aligned with a strong purpose and combining his work with his integral training (since 2002).

For transformational projects he provides value that needs no learning curve, has no time-delay & works across cultures. He is especially skilled in revealing the intangible, more subtle/energetic realities as they appear at IEC. Mathias has traveled around 80 countries and works globally.

Founder and CEO of Visual Facilitators GmbH with a team of 35 visual strategists, graphic recorders, facilitators: He has supported world-class meetings and events. The art of doing this is not only about aesthetics, but also about complexity in its web of related topics, problems & solutions. He sees his ability to oversee huge amounts of information as well as small details and inherent patterns is a gift to the world, as an integral application.

Réka Livits

Hungary

I support organisations and individuals to cope with the challenges of complexity. And communicate the essence of their work and to increase their impact by the catalysing power of visual thinking. As a graphic recorder I capture the essence of a talk, an event or a group process through real time, live drawing.

As a visual facilitator, I support teams to implement visual tools for better collaboration and communication. I offer training and workshops on visual facilitation. As a visual coach, I support the development and growth process of teams and individuals.

I have worked for more than 10 years as a trainer, mentor and coach in a very green association. The focus of my work there has been to support young adults on the path of finding their authentic vocation. Together with my team, we have created several workbooks, manuals and educational tools to guide those in transition. We have been building amongst others on integral theory, Theory U and nature-based process work.

Based on this experience, during the past 5 years I have been developing Selves. A coaching card set built on spiral dynamics and enneagram, that helps people deal with inner conflict and decision-making in the pivotal moments of life. I am excited to share this card set and method during IEC.

You also have the option to download all recorded material from IEC. This includes videos of our keynotes, and the audio of over 100 recorded presentations, however, it excludes 60 experiential workshops and the all-community big event.

If you came to IEC in person, you can also visit rooms via the recordings that you otherwise couldn’t.

Dear IEC Friends,

At IEC-s music plays a vital role. Apart from playing playlist on many workshops, we put special care in a series of live music performances. Both by invited professionals as well as IEC crowd sourced communal jamming!

The high quality, professional live musicians that we invited will build the program in multiple ways. We will be blessed by the coming of such special, spiritual trance-musicians

Istvan Sky at the Boat Party

Tuesday 23rd of May 18:00 – 22:00

Meet the hippy-Christ looking István Sky at the Tuesday night’s Welcoming Boat Party. After the welcome dinner, Sky will take us to a sound journey on the Boat in the Middle of Lake Balaton!

Starting from the beginning, Hungary’s magical music artist, Istvan Sky is coming to open the spiritual field at the welcoming Boat Party. The socialising, dinner and concert on Lake Balaton at the end of the pre-conference. Tickets still available separately or included in our Full Experience Tickets.

Istvan is known around the world as the creator of a unique song called “The Song of the Butterfly”, which has many millions of views on YouTube. His music inspires: peace, love, gratitude. The roots of his art springs from the deep soil of Shamanic, Tibetan, Indian and Hungarian folklore traditions.

However, the essential inspiration comes from his spiritual practice, and true observation of nature where music and silence interweave harmoniously. The voice is Istvan’s most powerful instrument, both musical and therapeutic. From contemplative verses to mantras and overtone chanting, Istvan’s interpretations never cease to amaze, with tonal versatility and colourful vocal spectrum.

Istvan is a Hungarian musician and composer. He started learning music as a child, from his family and from nature, then he went to India to deepen his singing and musical skills with Indian and Tibetan teachers.

In 1990 he became a disciple of the renowned master of sarod Smt. Sharan Rani in New Delhi. During 15 years under the supervision of his master, Istvan learned complex musical and spiritual art (voice, tabla and sarod), and also acquired a broader understanding of the oriental way of life and philosophy.

Istvan taught and participated in various international concerts and workshops, including the World Music Festival in Delhi. He had sold out concerts in India, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and toured all around the world from Singapore to Mexico.

Yet, sometimes saying is easier than doing. In the real-life daily engagement, we are not only faced by our own wounds, we are also faced by other’s wounds. This can make us move in the opposite of this Universal law of being Social Being. Taking distance, being isolated can be peaceful, but this led to more of separateness. We are here for a reason, for a mission, for a contribution with our own Essence & Light to engage in the universe. Being separate will make this mission “fine” but not complete.

Harmonious Universe: Music, Movement & Mindfulness

Thursday • 25th May 07:00 – 08:00

HARMONIOUS UNIVERSE is a mindful movement album written by Haley Dawn. After 15 years of bringing programs to young people internationally, Haley transformed her FLY curriculum into a musically led practice.

Haley has led workshops & listening parties for humans of all ages to discover the deeper messages & meanings embedded in the music. She is especially focused on the healing nature of creative expression, Self-led reparenting, play, & meditation that spark human development.

In this workshop, the album will guide us in exploration of our personal “stress style”, nourish our child parts with games & movement, & offer the mantras we need to transcend & include the complexity of our world today.

Haley is the founder of FLY (Freedom Lives in You), a pedagogical approach to learning that fuses artistic exploration, mindfulness & developmental psychology.

In addition to her work consulting and coaching with FLY, Haley has served on the teaching team at the Harvard Graduate School of Education since 2016, where she guides experiential and discussion support for courses in Mindfulness for Social Challenges & Kegan’s Adult Development.

Also a singer-songwriter & yoga teacher, she lives in Cambridge, MA with her husband &  blue-eyed Australian Shepherd, Jai. Find her new album Harmonious Universe on Spotify & integrate the child in you.

Saturday Night Main Event: A Collective Turquoise Experience

Saturday • 27th May 21:00 – 23:30

The deepest experience of many will be the Saturday Night Main Event: A Collective Turquoise Experience.

Here a group of professional drummers playing trance-inducing tones of multiple cultures will appear. They will join the facilitation team to induce full-flow teal and turquoise experiences for the IEC community under the night sky around the big bonfire.

An all crowd integral tribal drum with movements process outdoors in the garden of Hotel Azúr.

The evening begins with the Gulyás Party dinner outside on the same spot at the beach of Balaton, where later the fire and experience will be:

We all remember the incredible experience of the International Constellation on IEC 2018, where around 300-400 people engaged in a deep nonverbal process. Now on the next fully live IEC since 2018, in 2023 we return to Hotel Azur and we do again a huge all-crowd process.

The Hungarian shamanic work will also be demonstrated by both in a live music ensemble led by Gábor Ölvedi, accompanied by the facilitation of Bence Gánti, who besides being the IEC founder, and individual and group psychotherapist, is also a musician of voice, drums and guitar.

He – with his voice, guidance, and Hungarian shamanic drum – will weave into a synchronistic flow the drummers, and the IEC participants in process, and the trained integral group-facilitator team, who will join also for this special evening.

At this time we shift modality from constellation into a bodywork oriented collective flow process with 300 people, outdoors at night around the huge bonfire with professional drummers and integral group facilitators.

The space that is create is at the same time a flow space a bodywork space and a constellation space, but without pre-set focus, and with 100% here and now. The process the continues with warm up exercises for the crowd, and then the full turquoise flow process and live tribal drumming opens up

Accompanied by Gabor Ölvedi, his Drummers

Through his concerts his intention is to show the endless, open spaces and journeys what he experiences during meditation. He likes to keep the traditional instrumental and singing techniques and sacred lyrics in balance with innovative thoughts.

Meanwhile, he likes to use the instruments and visions of the modern world in a way that gives space to artistic freedom and imagination and also respects traditions.

Dear IEC Friends,

As more and more people turn to mind-altering substances like ayahuasca, magic mushrooms for healing, personal, spiritual growth, as its increasingly becoming a legal, and safe addition in an integral life practise, its important to examine their use through an integral lens.

By understanding the benefits and risks of these substances from a holistic perspective that takes into account their impact on individuals, society, and the environment, we can better navigate their use in a safe and responsible manner.

From ayahuasca to integration therapy and their role in a global awakening, we’ll dive deep into the transformative potential of these substance induced altered states, through the 3 abstracts of each presenter in the thematic section of Psychedelics at IEC on Saturday, the 27th of May from 11:30 – 13:30. You can find them in our final program, and read along to see the details of the presentations:

Guided Psychedelic Journeys for Personal Growth

By April Rains & Miriam Van Groen

Supported psychedelic experiences have great potential, and bring with them great responsibility. In this presentation you’ll hear what success factors can be deduced from the many hundreds of people we have supported at Guided Tripping. We’ll touch on preparation and integration, the varieties of experiences, and go into risks.

Interestingly enough those are not so much the widely feared ‘bad trips’, but usually more to do with an inability to value the experience for what it is (due to it not matching the hyped expectations/projections), or an inability to integrate the experience into daily life.

We’re looking forward to sharing our two cents to help you navigate the Integral dimensions of this expansive field.

Guided Tripping started supporting legal 1-day, 1-on-1 psychedelic experiences aimed at personal growth in 2017. Since all our Guides have a background in Circling, it could be said we Circle people while they’re in open and expanded states of consciousness & beingness.

Ayahuasca – Stories of Experience

By Hanna Hündorf

We will be telling our stories of our recent visits to Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica. Within a week, up to 90 participants experience their “miracle”. This is brought about through four nights of ceremonies drinking Ayahuasca, a plant medicine served by Shamans coming from a 5000 year old lineage from the Amazon in Columbia. We will share music and images, while telling our story through poetic means.

Rythmia offers a very supportive and professional setting, including medical examination, breathwork, yoga, integration sessions, sharing circles, healthy food and comfortable accommodation. In this way, light workers and light warriors are empowered to heal themselves, in order to contribute to the shift towards living in harmony with the earth.

To date, 14,000 people have undergone this experience. They also take part in a survey, both immediately at the end of the week and 6 months after their Ayahuasca ceremony. The results of this research clearly show the healing power of plant medicine.

When an ambitious psychedelic explorer, also known as a psychonaut, asked Ken Wilber about taking Ayahuasca, he had to say this:

Psychedelic Integration and Planetary Awakening

By Victor Jivanescu

How can psychedelics truly serve lasting planetary awakening? In the last decade we could observe a resurgence, increase in popularity and even hype around psychedelics as tools for healing, personal development and numinous experiences.

Even Netflix has made a 4-part documentary on them. However, with the hype there is also a growing critique of what some call the psychedelic renaissance, whilst others the psychedelic gold rush.

Personal experience, research and work in psychedelic transformation and integration have shown me that psychedelics can indeed serve as a tool for planetary awakening. The way in which this can happen, I argue, is by nurturing the importance of psychedelic integration. Simply having an experience, no matter how interesting and visually rich is not enough for lasting transformation.

For psychedelics to serve individual and thus planetary awakening, there is a need of a shift beyond experience towards more integration. Proper integration would in turn lead people to develop an integrative attitude on life and perhaps even integral life practice as a nourishing soil to sustain the insights from the experiences and bring them back into daily life.

Dear IEC Friends,

In today’s fast-paced world, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. From smartphones to social media, we are constantly connected to the digital world around us. As technology continues to advance and shape our society, it’s crucial that we take a step back and examine its impact through an integral lens.

By understanding technology from a holistic perspective that takes into account all aspects of the human experience, we can unlock new insights and solutions that benefit individuals, organizations, and society as a whole.

In this article, we’ll explore the integral approach to technology through the 2 abstracts of each presenter in the thematic section of Technology at IEC.

You can find them in our final program, and read along to see the details of the presentations:

Integral’s Technology Problem: How Do We Grow Next

By Farsam Shadab

The modern integral movement has been marked by late-adoption tendencies and the inability to innovate from the same ‘leading-edges’ of consciousness which we ostensibly espouse when it comes to technology. This tendency has endemic properties and must be addressed formally in order to support the involution necessary to become participants in the *Planetary Awakening* we wish to facilitate. With every passing year the dominating influence of technological paradigms and systems increases and we are reaching inflection points this decade from which we may never return.

As addressed in my previous presentations, this lack of future-centric thinking puts most integralists into a reactive stance to the ongoing march of technological progress (or regress) and leaves many to participate as mere consumers of the cultures purveyed by Orange-worldview agents.

Across this presentation & workshop series I will orient a we-space in the exploration and direct experience of:

  • the De-mystification of the primary drivers of internet technologies and underscore what about human nature gives rise to them
  • the Addressing the coming major coming waves of technology from AI to Web3, blockchain, crypto, BCI, AR and more…
  • the Inventorying of recent milestones in technological history and name the developmental stages they arose in response to
  • the Identification of the dominant-modes of discourse each system and platform gives presence and voice to
  • the Reflection upon and catalog the modes of agency that internet systems are dominated by and the mindsets they reify
  • the Diagramming  the collective dynamics that emerge as a social-media comes into existence and the mobile-web takes over
  • the Embodying of more holistic or integral cognitions using technology to facilitate integration, balance, growth and even healing & wellness

From here we will individually look at how our own unique contributions to culture and society can begin to lean-into emerging technological practices so that we might collectively better orient to the leading-edges of unfoldment and thereby either a) draw influence from the new boundary, and/or b) push or determine what the new boundary conditions to be thereby leading the very techno-economic evolutionary unfoldment of civilization as a pro-active integralist.

Breakthroughs and Blindspots of Big Tech in Teal

By Earl Wagner Phd

Many “Big Tech” corporations attract engineers by prioritizing their employees’ well-being as well as productivity. Some have even adopted Teal cultures (LL) and practices (LR) for human-centered collaboration at scale. For example, groups that value psychological safety uncover more – and more diverse – perspectives when brainstorming and problem-solving.

Google’s engineering organization is arguably the world’s largest, most “Teal-ish” collective, embodying Laloux’s Teal principles of self-management, evolutionary purpose, and wholeness. We illustrate these aspects with a case study of Google’s approaches to hiring, collaboration, performance evaluation, and promotion. By applying an Integral lens, we also identify blindspots that arise when advanced cognitive intelligence is not matched by other lines of development. We discuss how that impacts Big Tech’s response to the societal-level challenges posed by social media, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence.

May 27 • Saturday

Hungarian born renowned trauma, development, stress, and addiction expert, Gabor Maté is coming to IEC. All happening at the lakeside Hotel Azúr at Siófok. Following his one-of-a-kind keynote, titled “It’s All One: Awakening to Reality, Within and Without” about the spirituality of healthcare, our audience will have the opportunity for book signing with Gabor next to the stage. Feel free to bring your own copies of his books, and you’ll also be able to purchase them there.

This talk of his could be the most spiritual keynote given by a physician who is trained and widely acknowledged by the western system!

Aside from his keynote on Saturday, from 09:00 – 10:00am, he will also hold a workshop with the same title at 15:30 – 18:00pm, where he goes into deeper practical detail into the revolution that’s shaping the field of medicine.

Our excitement is multi-faceted, looking forward to him joining us live again, just like last year’s IEC. His respected brand can carry the age-old notion of non-duality into the mainstream public eye and western institutional acknowledgment. His influence is felt even now, but years from now, he could likely become the Gandhi of healthcare. A noble, compassionate, and peaceful strive for the acknowledgement of millions.

Are you an author presenting at IEC?

Book signing is available for all of our attending presenters. If you are interested, please email info@integraleuropeanconference.com for details of it’s logistics, facilitation.

Dear IEC Friends,

Integral Theory’s beloved, conjoined sibling is Integral Life Practice. Stuck together, they both require the other to exist, as they accompany each other everywhere. So one striving to play with theory, must also play with practice. For this reason, there will be a heavy emphasis on embodiment, practicalities at IEC 2023.

In our final program, you will see that we have 9 presentations in the theme of Integral Life Practice. They are divided into three sections: Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Read along to see the details of the presentations:

Integral Transcendence – Nurturing Life

By Marwa El Abd

A model focusing on the two lower quadrants: We & Its. Questioning how we can integrate peace, freedom & love into our relationships. And also, how we can contribute to our society in order to make it Serene, Healthy & Productive. Is it a dream to live fully Integrally? Is it possible? Are there challenges? Are there opportunities? Let’s explore it together.

Engaging in life after waking up is crucial to “walk the talk” to test our awakening, our consiousness, to face & overcome challenges, to cascade humanity values that can be missed.

ITS: Business is so important for societies & countries. It creates goods & services for the society to cover its needs, it provides employment opportunities for many people that can help them reach financial independence & live better lives. I creates meaning & purpose for life. It reduces poverty remarkably.

Yet recently the employment relationship is described by “Slavery”. Highlighting the fact that there is a very big challenge between achieving business requirements, financial independence from a side & living a balanced, passionate & peaceful life from the other side. Words like self-deprecation, fatigue, exhaustion, stress, burnout, toiling, overtime dogs, and on and on are used to reflect the suffering of achieving the dream of compromising between business & employee’s needs.

In business there are always training & development, yet it focuses on the Vertical development of the leader or the employee, focusing on acquiring more skills. It’s so important but it is not sufficient. Horizontal development of the Leader/ employee is as important as the vertical development, if it is not the most important.

Exploring Integral Coherence

By Dr. Elke Fein

This presentation argues that in order to uplevel the collective capacity of social change agents for transforming a metacrisis into a metamorphosis, we need to practice field intelligence that enhances and generates more coherence within and across networks and systems. It presents questions and insights from an ongoing European action research project which explores the nature of integral coherence as a means to facilitate transformative change, assisted by the SenseMaker technology. Besides working towards a deeper understanding of the structure and impacts of coherent fields, it also explores how we can maintain and reproduce them in different contexts.

Participants are invited to take an integrally informed look at the IEC as an example of a dynamic field aiming to build a minimum degree of coherence through specific practices. A SenseMaker capture helps to map existing field qualities (including unaddressed shadows) based on micro-narratives from involved actors.

Silent Connections (because talking is overrated)

By Paul Du Buf

Connections in stillness, being a witness, metaphor for timelessness. Allowing to be with the other, a reflection of ourselves. Witnessing allows for a meeting in presence, recognising the other as you. Being the body, space, environment and relationship that we are. Connection with hearts, metaphor for our relationships in this moment. Sensing the depth of our hearts and the relational field that we inhabit. All is welcome, all rainbow feelings from love to heartache. Sharing the space of our environment and relationships. Connecting with our bodies, metaphor for our unique embodiment in this moment. Being grounded, noticing our breath, sharing our experience of embodiment. Our physical manifestations sensed and expressed through movement.

Meeting in silence allows us to develop our capacity to be with our self and others just as we are without a story. Allowing our bodies to be as they are, allowing our associations to arise just as they are and allowing our body, movement to express itself as it wants or needs. Giving space to our experience, feelings, emotions, associations, movements just as they are, how they are developing. Connecting with the aliveness in our stillness and of our senses together in silence.

Saturday • May 27 • 11:30 – 13:30 • Room Panorama.

Awakening to a Planet of Living Cities

By Dr. Marilyn Hamilton

This session is an inquiry into how a Unitive Narrative calls us to awaken beyond individuals and organizations into our relationships within and among cities and their ecoregions.

We invite you to explore how Living Cities: Earth is creating the conditions for a mycelial web of inter and intra-connections arising when we practise Integral City’s Care-Ma Yoga. We invite you to share what happens when you notice how much you care for our Planet and then re-focus your care into Places, People and Person.

We will co-create an Interview Web and reflect on how we/you/I can amplify our/your/my senses of Aliveness where we/you/I live, with whom we/you/I are living and what we/you/I are doing. Let’s be curious if a sense of Cosmo-Localism ignites our 2nd Tier capacities to Think Cosmically, Feel Globally and Act Locally? Join our session and re-imagine the Integral City with wisdom from Marilyn Hamilton, Marina Demchenko, Indra Adnan, Jude Currivan.

Shadow Work and Narcistic Trauma in Organizations

By Adam Ralf

At the beginning, a short presentation is given to introduce the topic:
The pressure to adapt to the conditions of an organization can be understood as a narcissistic trauma. In our personal socialization strategies develop how we deal with this trauma. Often an organization develops a momentum of its own in which the pressure to adapt is not reflected. The interaction of personal strategies and organizational structures is a constant field of tension. Conscious handling is an important characteristic of an “integral” organization.

This is followed by an imagination exercise: It is about sensitizing the learned strategies in dealing with the pressure to adapt in organizations. Already as children we develop strategies in dealing with parents, kindergarten and school. Later it is the education and the professional life which takes place in organizations.

This is followed by an exchange of experiences with the focus on how my personal strategies are reflected in my current dealings with organizational structures.

Afterwards results from the work of Integrales Forum holacratic shadow circle will be presented with the desire to start a further exchange with other integral organizations on the subject.

ZERO

By Dr. Pier Luigi Lattuada

Integral means not touched. To Pass from the Zero is to realise that we are integral, any our exeprience is integral. According to transpersonal psychology, the concept of Self expresses the corresponding microcosmic psychic space of unity, which is drawn upon by transcending and including the ego through disidentification.

I will present concept such as Second Attention Epistemology, Transe-cognition coming from the experience of Zero, were we can see that we already are at the source, we always have been. There is nowhere to go, no goal to reach, no strategy to implement.

If you wish to understand the Passage from Zero, you can act like a thirsty person in the desert who finds a source. Once there, you simply drink and disappear from the world. All around you sand, sun, snakes, loneliness and the path ahead are still there, but you disappear from the world because you are thirsty and you drink. In the face of every problem, every conflict, every pain, you can try to disappear. Don’t wish the thoughts to disappear, don’t wish the problem to be solved, don’t even try to meditate, you can simply disappear, leave the problem behind and drink from the source.

Integral Nonviolent Communication

By Caroline Winning

This interactive workshops links the developmental stages of the integral theory with nonviolent communication in new ways.

Nonviolent communication is a powerful approach for understanding and solving conflicts and has been successfully applied in global conflicts

The Integral Theory and it’s stages of development provide orientation for our complex world.
Combining NVC and stages of development leads to a more mature & coherent understanding and application of nonviolent communication. Integral Nonviolent Communication acknowledges and integrates the qualities of the stages. Hence, it allows us to find more appropriate, meaningful ways of communication. In our global community displaying a wide range of world views Integral Nonviolent Communication offers the next step of evolution in our ability to communicate & resolve conflicts.

The workshop offers self exploration, group practices together with playful insights for the application of an integral nonviolent communication. This session is an inquiry into how a Unitive Narrative calls us to awaken beyond individuals and organizations into our relationships within and among cities and their ecoregions.

Seeds of Wisdom

By Katalin Gátfalvi & Dr Olga Kiss

When you join us in this workshop, you bring your culture, your roots, your knowledge and experiences and all your unique qualities. We follow the core idea of integral theory and life here, to collect and spread all the treasures that human existence can offer: good energies, elevating ideas, positive emotions, joyous feelings, open-hearted attitudes, clear thoughts, deep reflections.

Of course, a small workshop is not enough for an extensive collection. Instead, we aim for an intensive collection: any goods that you may have inside in the here and now. Just live and share them: the wisdom of body, the wisdom of heart and the wisdom of mind. Spread these seeds into the noetic field. We invite you to join us in the presence of love, joy, care, inner peace, and gratefulness.

In this workshop you will find creative visualization, guided meditation, bodywork and free dance. It is enough to express yourself by your presence, but of course we will be glad if you share your truth, beauty and good in other ways as well.

10,000 Peaceful Warriors – an Embodied Action Team

By Daniel Kirkpatrick

Who will be at the forefront of the human response to the meta-crisis? Well, us, of course… provided that we are fully present; that we act from love, awareness and perspective; and that we have trained rigorously.

“In times of crisis we don’t rise to the level of our potential, we sink to the level of our training.”  — Archilochus

This experiential workshop emerges from the martial arts, expanding from that tradition to embrace perspectives and skillsets needed to be fully present in critical moments. It will involve movement, play, and edge-work!  It will introduce physical techniques that serve both as tactical moves and as perspectival tools that allow us to be more resilient and response-able. It represents an introduction to the rigorous training we are called to at this time between worlds.

The “work” of this workshop is that of maturation: moving towards eldership centered on serving collective wellbeing while being whole unto ourselves. This workshop will also engage participants in helping design a “Toolkit for the Metacrisis,” a work in progress that could become a training tool for those preparing to be frontline agents for planetary survival.

Conscious Coupling

After three years of social distancing and an abundance of online events, it is time to get into the fresh air, sing and dance together, hug and shake hands, eat the same food, see the entire body of the person you are speaking to and be able to use all your senses.

If you are looking for a partner, there will be two singles events at IEC on the 24th, Wednesday and 25th, Thursday, facilitated by the brilliant Martin Ucik, that give you a chance to meet your significant other that shares your interests and values.

This year, after a day full of interesting information and moving experiences in the workshops, every evening there will be a community building event. The preconference boat party on Tuesday, then evening socializers on Wendesday, Thursday, and Friday with a chance to look at the posters and get into conversation about their content with the presenters, meet at one of the many bars with cozy corners, soak in the spa together or enjoy the mild spring weather in the hotel grounds and swim in the lake.

On Friday, there is also the ecstatic dance event in a much larger space than before, and on Saturday, the conference will culminate in a really deep process around a large fire, after eating traditional Gulyas cooked in large metal cauldrons over a fireplace.

Martin’s Abstract:

Many integral singles yearn to be in a love relationship with an equal and opposite partner. Alas, we have very few opportunities to meet compatible 2nd tier people in our day to day lives. And if we do, they are often clients or patients that are off limits.

So, there is no shame in having a secret hope or even open agenda to find/attract a life partner at a conference like IEC. In fact, several Integral couples met by chance or fate at such events. However, flirting or “hitting” on people can be awkward, embarrassing, and even inappropriate, and many of us are introverts who don’t even try.

Martin Ucik, author of “Integral Relationship Practice”, developed safe, playful, fun, and relaxed exercises to give interested Integral singles a chance to get to know each other on all levels of their being, and a confidential method to show their interest. Up for the adventure?

Martin’s Background:

Martin is a NARM trauma informed Integral Author, Trainer, and Consultant who supports singles and couples in co-creating healthy integral love relationships.

He moved from Germany to California in the 90s where he trained with Eckhart Tolle as a group facilitator and later became an avid student of Ken Wilber’s Integral Philosophy. This allowed him to integrate his relationship experiences into his three books “Integral Relationships: A Manual for Men”, “Sex Purpose Love: Couples in Integral Relationships Creating a Better World”, and “Integral Relationship Practice: A Manual for Singles, Couples, Helping Professionals and Group Facilitators” which Wilber calls terrific and groundbreaking.

Martin currently lives in Istanbul, Turkey and California, and consults and teaches online and facilitates experiential workshops and trainings locally and worldwide.

Dear IEC Friends,

Spiral Dynamics (SDi), as many of you already know, is one of the most profound systems of development, helping us to appreciate different evolutionary worldviews, patterns of behaviour. A theory that Clare W. Graves created in the 1950s, and Don Beck and Christopher Cowan further developed later ion.

Over the years, the theorists of Integral and Spiral Dynamics have cultivated an evergreen bond to aid each other in their mutual mission. Hence, SDi is always present at the Integral European Conference. In 2016, Don Beck came to Hungary personally before he passed away. And this year, his student and colleague, Dr Rica Viljoen will be the one joining us live as a keynote speaker, among fellow SDi enthusiasts, experts.

In our final program, you will see that we have 6 presentations, not counting the workshops, in the theme of Spiral Dynamics. They are divided into two sections: Friday and Sunday. Read along to see the details of the presentations:

Friday • May 26 • 11:30 – 13:30 • Room MARBELLA I.

Clare Graves Legacy: Pillars of Integral Thought

By Dr Rica Viljoen and Don Dulchinos

The work of psychologist Clare Graves, a professor at Union College in New York, represented an early contribution to developmental psychology. Ken Wilber has acknowledged the value of Graves’ work as informing different aspects of the AQAL metatheory and its applications.

This presentation based on work of a team of scholars with the Graves archives at Union College. This proposal contemplates a 20 minute presentation on the scope of the archives, a plan for making them available for scholarly research, and some observations of their continued relevance in contemporary study, adaptation and applications of Graves theory and practice across the Integral landscape. Slides will be presented featuring visuals of items in the collection, along with some brief video of Graves’ speaking.

Integral: Change, Communication and Human Niches

By Dr Rica Viljoen

‘Change’, when often used in light conversation, is perceived to be a simple process within an organisation. However, change within any organisation is a concept that is complex and multidimensional. In the new world of work, change is so prevalent, organisations facing challenges of communicating transformation awareness to employees, and confirming management skills are at its peak, to ensure the success thereof.

Human reactions to change within an organisation partnered with poorly planned or executed change initiatives makes us aware that employee’s emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental state are major contributors to the success or failure of the change initiatives. This article took the direction of management and the components that ensures successful change. The importance of Integral Leadership and the role of the human element, surfaces during change processes.

This study followed a qualitative research approach, and a grounded theory methodology was adopted. An example of a knowledgeable integral leader that is fully versed in Human Niches and Spiral Dynamics Integral will ensure a one-to-one contact when communicating with the purple niche employee, while utilising emails and memos when communicating with the blue niche employees.

This simple change to the communication processes is a very effective measure to empower employees to feel included in the change process and to feel that what they are important within the organisation. I grant my greatest of gratitude to Dr Loraine Laubscher and Dr Rica Viljoen for imparting their knowledge on Human Niches and Spiral Dynamics Integral to me personally, whereby I can boldly state that Human Niches allows for the establishment of an environment of understanding, interaction, and trust within an organisation or in your community.

By utilising the Human Niches and Spiral Dynamic Integral within the organisational environment, ensures effective communication, minimises resistance to change and optimises the success of change initiatives. Integral leaders that adopt an approach that includes the human element, have the ability to understand people as unique individuals with their own diversity of thought and worldviews, which may allow successful change implementation. The success of a change initiative may be elevated when an integral leader utilises the Human Niche theory.

The Colour Purple – Global Soul, Spirituality

By Dr Rica Viljoen

The Purple-archetype in Spiral Dynamics integral represents tribalistic values of safety and the relative status of one’s place in the community. But what happens when a child is raised with the logic in an ecology that holds these values dearly; but morphs through different stages and outside the tribe?

BO or Purple value systems accounts for the majority of the population both in the world and in the United States. To a larger extent, this is also true of emerging economies; and geo-political systems under crises. The leadership challenge of how to lead in a Purple organisation to influence meaningful change, seems to be universal. The devout loyalty of this worldview, makes it especially susceptible to influence, both good and bad. However, the world cannot move in any meaningful direction without Purple.

In fact, perhaps, the only way to combats today’s worldwide political and philosophical divisiveness is with leadership deeply grounded in the colour Purple. Contemporary thought advocates for children to make courageous moves to break out of the norm and proclaim independence. Do we then transcend and include?

Leaving one’s tribe is not easy, though, and becoming a leader outside of it is statistically inaccessible. Because those raised with deep Purple, but emerging to Second Tier due to their own transitions; often lose their tiara familiar support as they are seen to leave Purple. Attentive and concentrated Second Tier support is critical.

Without a plan for the Second Tier to identify, follow and backstop Purple as they transcend from their “safety of belonging”, those raised Purple and emerging to Second Tier are left with only luck as a strategy. Second Tier’s attention to supporting Purple-based emergents, at all stages, may be the key to replacing luck with purposiveness.

An auto-ethnographical reflection supported with deep theory.

Shadow, Sex and Wisdom – Integral (Hero’s) Journey

By Michael Fuchs

There are clear structures within the pathway of self development and towards awakening. The common aspect in all approaches is the confrontation with one’s shadows, the work with counter-sexual energies (Anima/Animus) and finally the deep dive into infinte wisdom, which often also is refered to as Non-Duality. This three sequences of shadow-work, integrating inner polarities, as well as the exploration and understanding of non-duality are found in all spiritual paths.

The framework of the so called monomyths (heros-, lovers- and wisdom-journey) from J.Campbell in association with 12 Archetyps (C.Pearson) are not only a detailed map for personal development it also enables a deep contact and shift in our fundamental patterns and psyche. The combination of these profound models with the integral perspective is a sustainable pathway through the integral personal development and the key for a successful pathway to awakening.

The Green vMeme as a Cocoon for Transformation

By Jim Lockard

In Spiral Dynamics™, and in Ken Wilber’s adaptation, the Green stage is often viewed in negative terms. This presentation will place Green into perspective as a transformational stage of development. As the highest stage in the first tier of stages, Green represents a launching pad through what Clare Graves called “a momentous leap . . . not merely a transition to a new level of existence but the start of a new ‘movement’ in the symphony of human history.”

Like the caterpillar becoming the butterfly, the person or organization centred at Green who would move to Yellow /Teal must undergo a radical transformation unlike the change required between any other two stages of human development.

For this reason, I think it is imperative that we begin to view the Green stage as a key transformational stage requiring significant “deconstruction” of worldviews and values before one is ready to emerge into second tier.

This means that we can expect organizations to ‘die’ – that is to change form so radically that they will not be recognizable when they emerge at the higher stage. Many will not complete this process; they will either remain a first tier organization or they will cease to exist.

The process of moving from Green to Yellow/Teal is little understood for at least two good reasons – one, there is no single way to do it; and two, we are often looking for a smooth transition with organizations looking as they did when at Green. This has to change – we need new eyes to see.

Make Clear Decisions

By Nicholas Joyce

After a decade of EcoVillage crusading, I have returned to the basics of a life well-lived. Recognising the neurotic mix of angst and ambition inherent in the proclivity to understand and address the meta-crisis humanity faces, I invite us to let go of the sometimes self-sacrificing and sometimes self-aggrandizing aspects of this endeavor and simply live well.

This workshop will deliver a map of decisions. How we make them. What to consider. What’s driving us. It is a pragmatic dive into the core executive functioning of human existence. Grounded in the immediate and practical, it builds an easeful map of how we can get from where we are to where we want to be, for reasons that genuinely come from our deepest values.

It serves as a tool for waking up to what those operating values are, cleaning up in seeing the reality of how they’re impacting our lives, growing up in how we approach decisions, and showing up in how we serve through our expanded scope of consideration.

Like people, countries have many angles, and faces. And similarly to our inner nature, there are mystical spaces within a nation, which are alien to even those who inhabit it. Traditional to the Integral European Conference, we are organising the Mystical Integral Sightseeing Tour as well, giving you the chance to explore those special, hidden, and beautiful landmarks of Hungary along with the integral community.

A 3-day, 4-quadrant event filled with unexpected and delightful twists and turns through the beautiful landscape of the land. UNESCO sites, spiritual sacred places, recommendations of locals. You will experience a “stages of consciousness” tour as you journey through magenta, red, amber, orange, green, and teal layers of European and Hungarian culture, and local integralists will share with you their individual and collective interiors, their stories and sagas.

Traveling with you on the bus will be 65 conference participants, including keynote speakers, and there will be many opportunities for building community with your fellow journeyers—sharing traditional mealsrelaxing in the spa, chatting on the bus—as well as opportunities to sink into a peaceful, pleasant space of your own while looking out the window or slipping away with your camera to catch a gold-rose Hungarian sunset. This tour has it all.

Ever wondered where the biggest, Guinness world record holder singing bowl is?

Did you ever plan to roam Hungary with a spiritual guidance?

Do you enjoy sharing a trip with like minded people?

Today, we are going to look through 3 upcoming retreats in the post-postmodern space, all of them taking place in May and June respectively. The goal of this article is give you an overview of what each of them is for, who is it for, what they individually entail, how they are special.

Retreats can be a great way to get away from the external world, let all the theory simmer down into our deepest parts for a more integrated, embodied sense in our being. They all share this pursuit.

We are going to look at:

  • The Metamodern Spirituality Retreat
  • The Integral Youth Gathering
  • The Integral Summer Retreat

Each of them is organised by esteemed people in our space, all aiming for different ways of achieving emergent integration. Our hope is that by the end of the article, you’ll have a clear understanding of their special perks and benefits. And if for some reason you can’t make it to the one you want, consider your other options and stay in touch with the organisers!

The Metamodern Spirituality Retreats

Time: May 23-28th

Location: Stannard, Vermont, USA

Main Organisers: Layman Pascal & Brendan Graham Dempsey

For Those Who: have a both/and sensibility, a deep interest in collaboratively evolving the new spirituality

The Metamodern Spirituality Retreats are gatherings particularly for people who have a both/and sensibility & a deep interest in collaboratively evolving the new spirituality, this speaks to the whole “liminal web” crowd, including Game B folks, and systems thinkers, and complexity science folks, and sense-makers, big history, consciousness studied, and such. Featuring prominent guests from these tribes, e.g., Bruce Alderman, Gregg Henriques, Zak Stein, Daniel Thorson, etc. it’s the closest thing to a cycling population of lay spiritual community committed to metatheoretical-level understanding of reality paired with embodied spiritual practice.

While Layman is the one “leading” the talks, sittings, themes, etc. the goal is not a one-way transmission of information. It is to provide a context and experiential data for the emerging collaborative intelligence to generate and align new spirituality. So the last retreat was on “Goodness” in a metamodern sense, this one is “Breathwork“. The next one might be “God“. Layman is kind of a conductor trying to arrange the situation in which the field itself can be the instructor, and then harvesting what emerges to help inform the next event. So each one of these retreats builds on what came before.

The most important feature is to generate an intersubjective vibe that these people can bathe in, and then harvest that for (a) insights into how metamodern spirituality can operate (b) subtle prompts toward the next event/iteraction. What has been progressively unfolding is mutual trust, an orientation toward ecology, the imaginal and place, ritual play and a renewed passion for developmental discussion.

Another aspect of Layman’s approach is to get the mixture of structure and openness correct.  We plan to have enough talk, activities and sessions to fill the time but that is just a beginning.  Those sessions are modified or even sacrificed if the field seems to be doing something else important.

More info about the Metamodern Spirituality Retreat here

Integral Youth Gathering

Time: May 10-14th

Location: Zöbern, Austria

Main Organisers: Jakob Possert & Lennart Tjarks

For Those Who: are willing to self-initiate, integrally inspired, 18-42 year olds

We are weaving a “net of trust” meaning that all co-creators/participants are friends (of friends (of friends)) of the two co-leads, bridging the international younger audience in the post-postmodern communities.

We are relating in an intentional culture inspired by Circling Europe, We-Flow and Authentic Relating, emerging in a safe & brave space. The central elements are our reminders of our 5 liberating freedoms that rest on top of the foundation of “giving freedom before we give (ourselves or each other) anything”. There are no boundaries imposed on us from the location (apart from property damage and upholding the liberal Austrian law) What will happen is entirely up to us, since we practice a co-creator mindset that let’s us grow up from a consumer role.

As concrete examples, co-creators will host We-Spaces like Authentic Relating™ or Integral Life Practice sessions as well as singing and sauna sessions.

We have already defined several workshops – but as an alternative to creating something you can also always meditate or rest. And in the end, everyone self-initiates to meet their own needs and can offer to fulfil desires of others.

Integral Summer Retreat

Time: June 2-7th

Location: Siófok, Hungary

Main Organiser: Bence Gánti

For Those Who: seek the integration through a blend therapeutic facilitation with intense shared altered states

Bence has spent 26+ years facilitating 1000+ groups, 50+ retreats combining the healing and transformative methods of the human psyche and soul. From group to individual, verbal to non-verbal, from gentle to powerful, shamanic to scientific, earthly to heavenly, grounding to transcendent, all which has become his integrated approach, Integral Flow.

Thanks to his dynamic agility of therapeutic, mystical modalities, his facilitation holds space for higher realms of development through a synthesis of methods that embrace all expressions across development.

Through bodywork and encounter exercises, the Integral Flow Approach puts people into a deeper state of consciousness where subtle encounter experiences and the flow state appear both in individuals and the group. Combined with sharing our experience verbally, it has a quick healing effect on the lack of contact and connection that many of us carry simply by living in today’s highly individualised world.

An Integral Flow retreat is intensely experiential, as it includes a dynamic range of talking circles, movement, contact flow, music, psychodrama and somatic expressions. Plenty of break times, outdoor activities and meditation.

And we are introduced QnA Calls, where you can book a 15 minute session and engage with someone from our team to help you find what you are looking for!
