Experience the taste of Austrian Alps’ mountain spirituality: Heidi Celementini is a professional yodeling singer, you know, that interesting tone where the Alps singer alternates regular tones with funny high pitches. Popularised on TV like Austrian and South German (Alps region) songs for beer and wurst festivals, behind the secular tourist scene, for the Alps people it has a deeper, often spiritual significance. A connection to the mountains, alignment with nature, an invitation of the divine. A tool of consciousness for inner alignment, calming the mind, and dropping into the heart.

It is one of the most remarkable and variant richest genres of alpine folk music. Yodeling, with its various local characteristics, is an ethnic form of singing and expression that can be found especially in mountainous regions. It had its origins in the call from mountain to mountain, the communication from Alp to Alp. Recognisable from the very first few notes, this Alpine music has the love for nature and home as its central themes.

Characteristic features of yodeling are the frequent switching between the chest and head or falsetto part (register change), a tight polyphony, large interval jumps and the almost exclusive use of major keys. Another distinguishing feature of the yodeling is the singing or calling on sound syllables. Vowels serve as a sound carrier and make the sonority vocally easily. Syllables and melody are very closely linked.

The natural yodel is more than singing, than an „Alpine shout”, it is a sing for joy as a song. It is wordless, formless, informal, rampant and authentic. A true natural yodeling comes from the heart and goes to the heart, does not conform to any rule, is the expression and embodiment of freedom. Feelings that need no words are discharged in it: love, passion for life, fervor and spirituality. It’s like a musical dialogue or storytelling and very often, strong emotions are associated with it. In the broad, quiet yodeling, there is the primal need of mankind to sound and to resonate with other voices.

Not surprisingly, yodeling leads people and groups within a very short time to deeper connectedness. The yodel awakens the archetypal longing for continuity, clarity and serenity in a time that is characterized by a constant increase in speed and also arouses a need for nature and one’s own naturalness.

Yodel songs are about everyday life on the alpine pastures, the desires and joys of the dairymaid, her love life. It is archaic and strong, resembling an ancient sound, that awakens a longing to rest, to feel a gentle force in us, to show the world our frothing happiness. Allowing the “register change” from chest to head voice requires a little confidence in your own voice at the beginning. Bravely sing, to take a little courage, and it is already easy: The liberating feeling comes from the rapid change between resonance chambers and the loose movement of the larynx.

Clementi, a nascent to the Alps specialized in yodeling as spiritual practice. She is a known singer and popular workshop leader in Austria. She joins us for the IEC Regathering 2019 to offer this practice and experience to the international integral community.

She will help to find confidence in our natural voice – a quality good to have for yodeling. No prior voice training or experience is required. Finding our voice, letting things out, experiencing release, liberation, and joy: helps us spiritually align and reconnect. Yodeling is fun, and yes, sometimes even crazy!

About Heidi Clementi:

Heidi grew up near Bozen/South Tyrol but lived, studied and worked in Vienna for over 30 years. She was always drawn back to the mountains and in 2017, she moved back to South Tyrol, to live in Meran. Singing and yodeling is a basic human need for her. As a singing- and yodeling-instructor Heidi wants to awaken the magic of spontaneous and informal collective singing, because many people feel it: singing makes them happy!

She invites people of all ages to experience the joy of yodeling and singing together. At the Regathering we will yodel freely and get to know these archaic songs.

Is the cofee break better than the conference? Open Space Teal and Yellow

Harrison Owen discovered in the 1980-ies, that people who are attending his conferences enjoy more the coffee breaks between the formal presentations and plenary sessions than the actual programs. During the breaks they can move freely wherever they want and have deeper and more effective conversations about topics that really matters to them. After he realised this, Harrison combined this insight with his experience of life in an African village, and created a totally new form of conferencing. This is the Open Space technology, which can be also a little bit chaotic at first sight, but on the ground it proves to be extremely powerful, productive and fun! 

We had the same experience in the Intergal Europan Conferences in Europe, and also on the Integral Theory conferences in America: often the best times are the lobby times and coffe breaks, when we can’t stop enjoying the spontanious meeting of super exciting people, and engaging into conversations, that are born there. Because those conversations are often the most real ones.

So why not creating an integral event when we reverse the game and make 70% of the conference just like that: an Open Space process! That’s how the format of the IEC Regathering has been created.

We give 30% of fixed frame with selected goodies such as keynoters, big circle practices, and sharing who we are. Also adding some thrilling news and announcements! Then the Open Space period starts. Open Spaces begin without any predetermined agenda or pre-set speakers, as the sessions are born in the “here and now” and sessions are created by the participants, among whom most are accomplished experts of their respective areas. Participants, in other words experts are often full of knowledges, have meaningful question, skilled processes to offer, and readiness for hot discussions. So they are asked: If you want to offer something, come up now! They come up and announce what, when and where they are inviting others to do within the frames of that venue and time frame (a few hours!). It’s all “people decide”, not the organizers. 

There are two key ingredients to reach the deep creative learning experience here: freedom and responsibility. Freedom allows you to explore whatever your needs and interests are and you can try out more things to find out, what really fits you there, and what is real for you. While responsibility insures that both exploration and experimentation will be pursued without condemning any program elements: you decide, you can stay or leave for another session.

 

There are four guidelines and one law for the Open Space:

1. Whoever comes are the right people. Not only are experts cool – anyone who is honestly drawn to a subject is a worthwhile participant in the discussion.

2. Whenever it starts is the right time. Intuitively manage the start of your section in the gathering and when the conversation begins let the ideas flow. Don’t force yourself or feel pressure to be someone you aren’t. Just give yourself, be open and flexible.

3. When it’s over, it’s over. Flexible time management of the sessions maximizes what emerges from the process.

4. Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened. Leave out your expectations and be prepared to be surprised! No one knows what kind of brilliant ideas or solutions will be found in each and every group.

The Law of Two Feet

If you are neither learning nor contributing, move to some place more to your liking. If during the session you are attending you find yourself in a situation where you are not getting what you were looking for, you must use your feet and go to some more productive place. No one’s feelings will be hurt and no time will be wasted.

What is needed from you, is to be there, reflect honestly, share openly, think critically and most importantly: trust the process! You will experience a truly inspiring and productive flow.

On the Regathering before and after the Open Space periods we will gather at the Big Circle where we all unite in a United States of Attentia. United Space together alternates with Open Space in break outs, that is born from the Big Circle. There you will have the freedom spontaneity to create an agenda together with the other participants and build up the whole concept. By naming your topic you will give an invitation for the people to join you: that’s how step in as presenter. You’ll get as audience those who truly resonate with you right there and then! Trust them, they have the passion to be there and for some reason they want to be in your room!

If you don’t want to offer a session, then you see who is offering what and decide with whom you resonate most and follow that person. Whether you will hold a session or you will be a participant, let go of your expectations! Enjoy the beauty of the “here and now”, mutual resonance, purpose and effectiveness, and go with the inspirational flow! You will definitely experience peak moments, where you are at the right place, meeting the right people and receiving the right exchange and inspirations.

 

You can be also a Butterfly, who is there, but doing or saying nothing or may not even going to any session! If standing on the garden with closed eyes and absorbing the sun and nature with two friends or even alone is your call: then it is as valid as going to a session. You are giving your presence and energy to the gathering and thus we created together the Field.

Or you can be a Bumblebee,  who buzzes across rooms, and is everywhere, jumping into a lot of sessions and gets inspired. This energy gives a lot to the gathering.

Firewalk on the IEC Vienna Regathering 2019

Firewalking has been practiced for over a thousand years all over the world.

The oldest founded record comes from Sri Lanka and is more than 4000 years old. The concept firewalking is known over the whole world, but therefore it is not always done in the same way for the same reason. Like that, the old Vikings used to walk over hot chains, people of the Hawaiian islands walked over hot lava and in Fiji they walk over hot rocks. In every culture, firewalking has a different meaning. In Bali for example, young girls between the age of 7 and 14 firewalk because they believe the Gods incarnate through the children, and so they firewalked to prove the Gods that they’re in the try. Other cultures have made a yearly ritual out of it like in the city San Pedro Manrique in Spain. There they firewalk every June 23, at midnight, to celebrate the summer solstice. The special thing here is that they always walk with two people. One person will sit on the back of the other, and like that, they cross a 23-foot-long carpet of oak embers.

Fire worship and firewalking, practiced as a rite of purification, healing, initiation and transcendence has been an excercise for people with different cultures for long time. Many tribes had or still have rituals and ceremonies to honor the sacred aspect of fire – honoring its gifts and acknowledging its transformative power as these rituals have nourished and warmed the human spirit since the dawning of humankind. In contemporary society, firewalking has evolved into a powerful tool for self-realization and empowerment and it is also a wonderful example of the mind-body connection in practise which demonstrate that we do have control over our limitations.

Many of the natural environments of our planet are dependent on the cleansing and purifying aspects of fire. For example wildfires clear the way for new growth, which many animal and plant species depend upon for survival. Just as the planet requires fire for renewal, so does the human spirit, as we are always intrinsically connected with this earth from which we grew. Our relationship to fire is as old as the human race.

But where does all this knowledge comes from? Well, Peggy Dylan is the woman who brought firewalking to the Western world. She traveled around the world to see how all different cultures are practicing firewalking and brought this wonderful knowledge to us. One of the most known students of Peggy Dylan is Tony Robbins. He learned from her how to let people walk over 1200 °c hot coals and is now one of the most famous motivational speakers that helps more than 10 000 people a year walk over fire.

Since firewalking is not something new, scientists are trying to explain what makes it possible to walk over 1200 ° hot coals. One of the conclusions is that there is a certain layer of ash on the coals that reduces the heat to the surface of the feet. It’s also a fact that walking on coals with a certain speed reduces the chance on burns. According to science, it’s the combination of these mentioned facts in combination with the layer of sweat the feet produces, which makes it possible to walk over hot coals.

Although this should be enough proof for making firewalking possible, this doesn’t explain the fact of ancient tribes walking over hot lava, stones, chains, etc. The layer of ash may explain a firewalk on hot coals, but how do they explain the hot stone walking? And how does it explain the firewalk in Spain where people walk with someone on their back? Their feet are rubbed into the hot coals. The layer of ash, the speed and the sweat will not be enough to make this scientifically possible anymore.

What science may prove or not, Peggy Dylan would say “ all over this little globe people have firewalked for thousands of years in thousands of different rituals, the only reason why people would firewalk in so many different ways, in so many different cultures, is because it works. That doesn’t mean it works physically, it works internally. Firewalking quickens the human spirit and allows us to grasp awareness about reality that is very difficult to come by in the other way, in our current social structure.” and that’s also our internal motivation to let you have this wonderful experience.

How often do we allow ourselves to free the Inner Fool and play the Game of Fooling?

This most popular session held by Susanne Cook-Greuter, Michael Nelson Doshin and Angela Halvorsen Bogo from IEC 2018 reveals the main principles of Fooling and how to inhabit the innocent Inner Child.

„Always begin with Bodhichitta” – says Michael Nelson Doshin.

But what does it mean?

• Begin with absolute clarity
• Become completely still
• And a deep selfless caring will arise

Michael Nelson Doshin continued with a short meditation which helps to focus inwards in order to reach the innocent Inner Child.

Here are the main focus points:

• Relax your body
• Breath – find the breath naturally arising and falling
• Open your heart and let it be at peace
• Let go of all likes and dislikes, fears and hopefulness
• Empty your mind of all thoughts, let go of all your opinions and beliefs
• Notice the stillness that underlies of all things – this stillness, the I-Amness which is always there

In this stillness, in the complete silence there will arise the deep selfless caring and this wil begin the play of Fooling

After this short meditation Angela Halvorsen Bogo asks the audiance to amuse themselves. Slowly, step by step to bring the awareness into themselves and after that spread it out to the whole room.

She invites the people to go around and meet others:

„Let them see you as you are right now”

With small exercise she guides the audiance to evoke the Inner Child and fool around that brings joy and laughter.

Michael Nelson Doshin explains how to practise the Fooling.

This is a spontenaous laughter after the retreat gets intense and everybody’s dropping deeply in the silence.
In this silence this laughter spontaneausly begins to emerge.

But how to reach this Sacred Laughter if your are not sitting in a retreat?

It is a yiddish word that means whining, moaning, complaining.
He invites everyone to complain about something, in order to notice who is doing the whining.

But whos is causing the suffering in your life?

There is one single source: it is you. If you recognize this one, you arrive to the last important thing:

The joke is you – the Cosmic Joke is you

Susanne Cook-Greuter announces the guidlines of the Game of Fooling, which are the following:

• Respect everyone and everything in this game
• Own your Fool – don’t project onto someone else
• Do not do unnecessary harm
• Clean up any messes you may make
• Be a blessing
• When in doubt, say: YES!
• Enjoy yourself

Angela Halvorsen Bogo invites the audiance for a little play during the conference – there are three bags that contain 12 foolish missions to be completed.

She also explains, that inhabiting the Fool can be a completely new or even scary prospect of yours, but it has a big invitation that the Fool can bring you:

            To say yes to taking a risk!

And in case a mistake is happening?

            This is a moment to enjoy

Mistakes are the unexpected things that go wrong, but these are little doorways into something else if you go through them.

As an offering, the presenters showed the Greeting of the Fool, which should be practised in order to cherish the Inner Fool.

The Journey of Self-Organization – Transforming
from Duality to Entirety

 As the workplace continues to rapidly evolve, self-organization has become one of the buzz words within the nomenclature of leadership and management. However, it is understood in a variety of ways. For many, self-organization creates hope of more empowered, liberated way of working. For others, it is an alternative to a conventional work environment and stands for healthier, happier workplaces where people are inspired and engaged.

Organizations of all sizes have run various self-organizational experiments, and most have encountered unexpected obstacles that created much internal frustration. Practices like Holacracy have enabled work to be self-organized, including the fundamental and requisite power shift that self-organization requires. However, what’s been missing from the journey is the equally fundamental personal expansion required for the people on the journey to operate holistically within the power-and-mind shift. In most cases, this shift is largely underestimated, and for many, has derailed the journey altogether.

Christiane draws from a decade of practical experience with self-organization and the fundamental shift it represents. She will communicate the importance of a shared, clear definition of self-organization, the evolution of leadership, and the learnings that have helped her and her colleagues at Evolution at Work participate in the emergence of Evolution at Work’s Language of Spaces framework.

Evolution at Work offers content, practices, and spaces for individuals to expand the four core capacities that are needed to thrive in a self-organizing context. With these offerings, the journey of the organizational system and the social system can become truly systemic, and ultimately a transformational journey from duality to entirety.

Harvesting the All Community International Constellation Process

 

Before the Conference: Preparations for the Big Community Constellation (BCC)

I was definitely both excited and anxious for my first planning meeting call with Bence, Barbara and Peter, at the end of March 2018. After introducing ourselves to each other we had a lively conversation on the theme for the upcoming BCC. We all felt this would be a rare chance to enhance peace during these turbulent times, as we seemed to be on the edge of another cold war. We asked ourselves many questions: How does enhancing peace in Europe fit with the title of the conference, “Allies of Evolution?” Can there be evolution without peace? What is peace today, if it is not only the end of war? Barbara sees peace as unity in diversity, opposing the centralizing process in Europe. Bence brought into the conversation the meanings for peace at the different levels of the spiral (SDi). (1) We wondered how can we move towards unity and community for a safer future?

We also discussed what we meant by Europe. We did not want this SCW to be about the European Union as a political entity. Bence and Peter, both from Hungary, pointed out that there are different notions of what Europe is. The western perception is that there is Western Europe and Eastern Europe based on the history of the Iron Curtain. For those who live in Central Europe, this is its own region and in the middle of West and East and needs to be acknowledged.

Designing the BCC: Two Systemic Constellations

I offered to facilitate on-line constellations (SCW) (2) as a design tool for the BCC. It was a way to make design choices based on information that came from the Field, using our whole body/minds. And we could do this on-line based in several locations: Hungary, Germany and Canada. This was a new way of co-creating for the team.

We did two on-line constellations: the first was to choose the right wording for the title of the theme which became Restoring Peace in Europe: moving towards unity after the constellation. The second was to choose which elements would be named and represented in the BCC. This process took more than one session. We ended up with 48 elements in categories: Gaia, Spirits of Peace and of War, Soul of Europe, Love; the People from the European Regions, the People from the Continents, Supportive Energies, Adverse Energies, and Group Energies.

We also held further meetings on-line and at the conference hotel to consciously set the structure for the evening. We clarified our roles and agreed to tasks beyond our group meetings. This included Peter choosing and preparing a team of helpers who prepared the set up for the room, held space during the constellation, brought water to representatives, and assisted in healing movements when needed. Bence, Barbara and Peter would be facilitators who moved inside the Field and I would hold sacred space along with my team of Conscious Witnesses.(3)

We also consulted with two spiritual guides to give us additional information.

Music is integral to the BCC. Peter and Bence have gathered an amazing playlist so they can easily choose the perfect music for following the crowd mind state. I wish had had the playlist!

As Bence said about the preparation processes: “It was a continuous creative process as we needed to keep some ideas and drop others. We were purposeful and intuitive as well. It was a beautiful process! It was very powerful, connected and in the flow. And it also needed a lot of work.”

With the use of Ken Wilber’s All Quadrants/All Levels/All Lines model there is a user-friendly methodology for integrating Spiral Dynamics into personal, organizational, and societal operations.

(2) Diana Claire has developed a way of doing on-line constellations via ZOOM with multiple people in multiple locations each using a “clock” diagram as the symbol for and map of the Field. Each person puts the markers for representatives on their own clock so that everyone participating in the constellation is working on the same map.

Anne-Marie Voorhoeve (Holland)

Drs. Anne-Marie Voorhoeve is a heart-centered Strategic Connector, innovative co-creator, social architect, experienced facilitator and Spiral Dynamics meshworker. Her evolutionary purpose is to co-create with all of nature a world in harmony connected to the Universal Heart. Serving the development of planetary consciousness, she is dedicated to bringing humanity into right relations with its surroundings. She focuses on integral transformation of society into a sustainable world.

She is founder and strategic connector of The Hague Center for Global Governance, Innovation and Emergence, and co-founder of the School of Social Alchemy. She works internationally with businesses, business networks, global organizations, educators, technology providers, politicians and NGOs, designing and supporting complex multi-stakeholder projects that are committed to meaningful and ambitious goals that are regenerative and serve to develop a world that works for all.

Bence Gánti (USA/HUNGARY)

Director of IEC

Bence Ganti, MA, co-founder and director of the Integral European Conferences (since 2014) and the Integral Academy in Budapest (since 2006), is an integrally oriented clinical psychologist, vipassana meditator, and international teacher of integral psychology. Being a dual citizen of the USA and Hungary, Bence bridges cultures delivering keynote addresses, making presentations, and leading experiential workshops worldwide, including his version of a cutting-edge we-space practice called Integral Flow Experience.

So far, Bence has made appearances in the USA, Mexico, Colombia, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Portugal, Bulgaria, and South Africa. Merkel, Putin and Integral in Davos? World Economic Forum News

Among many Angela Merkel, Prince William, Benjamin Netanyahu said yes, Putin and Theresa May are pending, and IEC said yes for being there in the World Economic Forum (WEF) ecosystem next week in Davos, Switzerland!

The biggest names in politics in business appear in the snowy Swiss Alps town for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting. Here Davos BlockBase will host the 2019 SuperNode Gathering, an event series with thoughtful panels, roundtables, and collaborative sessions.
