In order to build a sustainable world in togetherness, there is a fundamental urgency required to change the education system as it stands now. Learn from Jamila Tressel, former student of a progressive school in Berlin, how schools can be transformed into places of intrinsic and joyful learning, self-organized and project-based, connected to real-life challenges, allowing students to develop responsibility and future-skills.
You will learn about the curriculum of the Ev. Schule Berlin Zentrum (ESBZ, Progressive School in Berlin) that is designed around the UN’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Students select which subject and unit they will be working on and work autonomously and self-paced. They work on projects based around the UN Global Goals. With projects happening off campus like the Responsibility – and the Challenge Project students learn future-skills in real life based on personal experiences. The teachers are their coaches and guides.
The ESBZ’s shows the impact of a new system based on the principles of humanity and solidarity and following a simple premise: radically trusting in the potential of students and putting them in charge.
