Alison Bulman, LCSW: Pioneering Authentic Connection Through Lovitation

Alison Bulman, is a New York-based nationally recognized couples therapist, relationship expert, and author who helps individuals and couples overcome emotional barriers to create deeper, more authentic connections. Through her innovative communication method, Lovitation, Alison empowers clients to replace defensiveness with vulnerability and cultivate relationships rooted in trust and empathy.

Her approach blends Imago, Gestalt Therapy, Integral, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Circling, and Mindfulness to create a transformative communication framework. Alison’s work has gained recognition for helping couples navigate rupture and repair while guiding singles to shed emotional armor and invite intimacy.

Alison holds a BA in Communication from Cornell University (1997) and an MSW from NYU with a focus on Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring Disorders. Her early work with individuals struggling with addiction and her own 20 years of sobriety, deepened her understanding of the connection between emotional disconnection and healing, leading her to focus on couples therapy.

Her personal journey is equally inspiring. In her 40s, Alison met her husband, Vincenzo, an Italian training to become a Gestalt psychoanalyst. Their love story, built on honesty and vulnerability, mirrors the principles she teaches. Her upcoming book shares her own transformative experience of finding and nurturing love.

Lovitation was born from Alison’s desire to help couples move beyond surface-level communication and experience emotional levitation—where both partners feel truly seen and celebrated. The technique invites partners to slow down, stay present, and meet each other with curiosity. It transforms reactivity into mindful communication and creates emotional safety where vulnerability can thrive.

In addition to her private practice, Alison is a sought-after speaker and workshop facilitator. She teaches her Lovitation framework to therapists, singles, and couples, equipping them with the skills to transform their relationships. Her workshops, known for their dynamic and experiential nature, provide participants with not only knowledge but also a felt sense of how to apply these tools.

Alison’s Lovitation workshops have gained a loyal following among therapists eager to offer their clients a more mindful, emotionally attuned approach to communication. She has led trainings nationwide and presented at esteemed conferences, including at her alma mater, Cornell University, where she inspired attendees to embrace vulnerability and authenticity in relationships.

As Alison looks ahead, her vision is to continue empowering individuals and couples to transcend emotional barriers and cultivate relationships where they feel deeply loved, understood, and celebrated.
