Paul graduated as a registered nurse in 1994. He became a specialist addiction nurse in prevention, treatment, aftercare, dual diagnosis, training and innovation in addiction treatment services in the Netherlands and the UK. For his innovative NHS online recovery project, he received a clinical excellence award in 2011. He coordinated an alcohol outreach pilot project in London and was additionally registered as an independent nurse prescriber in 2014. He became a somatic practitioner with a specific interest in trauma to increase his effectiveness in working with clients. Paul is focused on supporting addiction services to become trauma-integrated which he believes will benefit clients, staff and culture. He became a certified global nurse consultant by the international council of nurses and was an expert reviewer for the first universal nurses addiction curriculum. His first book was published in 2023 with the title “Shadow Dancing; embodied recovery for trauma and addictions”. He is the founder of the ERA-Institute which stands for Embodied – Radical – Attuned and its mission is to create a trauma integrated infrastructure. He created the institute with his long time partner Therese (director). He currently lives and works at a drug and alcohol community service in London – United Kingdom.
