Scientific Methodologies grow up. Their developmental trajectory includes qualitative measurements popular at the 3.5 Achiever stage, to qualitative descriptions at the 4.0 Pluralist stage, to mixed methods at the 4.5 Teal stage.

But what kind of methodology evolves into the MetAware tier of development? Advanced states are required to access the MetAware stages in addition to relative developmental growth. What kind of research methodology could transcend and include the popular subtle methodologies described above?

Is it possible one has been available right under our noses, but we haven’t had the capacity to recognize it?

This academic presentation will present such a methodology evolved by Charles Peirce and how its application created the STAGES Matrix scoring system.

• A description of the developmental levels of intuition through the tiers
• How MetAware states are the progenitor of this methodology
• A description of the steps of this methodology
• How it transcends and includes earlier methodologies
• A description of the process that was used in the uncovering of the STAGES Matrix.

STAGES is a relatively new developmental model created by Terri O’Fallon, which extends Loevinger’s ego development model and assessment framework. It adds additional stage levels and includes theory of four foundational parameters underpinning all stage transitions, which was inspired by Wilber’s quadrant model.  In this presentation we will summarize a number of research studies of, and based upon, on the STAGES model that illustrate the models validity and usefulness. These studies include: a validation study showing that STAGES replicates Cook-Greuter’s model in the Subtle Tier; a Rasch analysis and longitudinal analysis showing the psychometric strength of the assessment; a validation study showing inter-rater consistency over the entire range of levels; studies indicating the validity of using alternative sentence stems; and an analysis and critique of the Ogive cutoff model used in most sentence completions tests.

Planetary views began seeding our developmental perspectives since the 1960’s and have continued to evolve. The screenplay of the post-modern integral version of the planetary awakening is being written right now, as we socially construct each other here, in this field. But what does “planetary awakening” mean in an integral world?

This talk will suggest a few practical markers we might look for in our Planetary Awakening-directly related to the evolution of humanity.

We love individual awakening for the planet. We love planetary awakening for the individual. And we love collective awakening in general. But what is the shadow side of all this “awakening”? In this dynamic workshop, Terri O’Fallon and Kim Barta team up once again to explore the science and mysticism of evolutionary awakening. But, of course, they don’t stop at the easy stuff. While they rejoice with us in planetary awakening, Terri and Kim take an honest look at the good, the bad, and the beautifully ugly. By looking ahead, we can predict, prevent, and preserve planetary awakening trends. We can predict what is likely to happen. We can prevent the shadow side from causing (too much) harm. And we can preserve the purity of planetary awaking pathways with lessons from the past, patterns of the present, and possibilities of the future. If we are to support planetary awakening, perhaps it will help to be awake while we do it!
