Project: Organisational Transformation in Africa – a spiral dynamics approach through case study methodology and storytelling

Three turnaround strategies are presented during this presentation. The case study of Absa Brokers, in the financial services industry is shared. Further; a Ghanaian case study in the mining sector are discuss. Lastly, the successful turnaround of a large private health organisation is shared through storytelling.

The inclusivity model of Viljoen, that integrates spiral dynamics as multicultural theory and Jungian psychology; were utilised as academic stance. The stories shared however highlight not only the difficulty experienced from a personal level during large scale change; but illustrates how an understanding of differences and the unleashing of voice in organisations can lead to sustainable transformation.

Actual return on investment statistics are shared. Further, the dynamic of dealing with millennials in the new world of work are presented. The importance to work from a second tier, inclusive leadership state during transformational efforts is highlighted.

About Ruan Viljoen:

Ruan Viljoen as been trained by dr Don Beck over the last five years in Spiral Dynamics. He is also working closely with dr Loraine Laubscher to explore how spiral dynamics impact in organisations; especially when it comes to millennials and cultural transformation. Ruan is a trained humanistic and psycho-analytical facilitator. He is also an expert in working with the change state indicator and psychological map – instruments that describes spiral dynamics.
