Lake Balaton: The Hungarian Sea & Siófok the host city of IEC 2018

Lake Balaton

The Hungarian Sea
& Siófok
the host city of IEC 2018

What is common in a chocolate bar and the Hungarian Sea?

Hungary doesn’t have any sea or ocean as a landlocked country, but we have our beloved Lake Balaton with volcanic hills, resort towns, beaches, and high-rise hotels along its 197km shoreline.
It’s not salty but a freshwater lake in western Hungary and the largest lake in Central Europe.

The Balaton area has great venues for conferences, international business meetings or festivals, attracting people from all over the world.
A very popular and safe destination not only for locals but among Western European tourists.

The northern shore is a breathtaking mountainous region known for its historic character and as a major wine region, while the southern shore is flat and is known for its resort towns.

The host city of the 3rd Integral European Conference is Siófok on the south shore. This city and the shore of Balaton has been a longtime a real meeting point of West and East.
Siófok is also known as a real vibrant, vital and party place to be during the summer. All who are coming to the conference in May, before the summery season, can enjoy all of its beauty without the big partying crowd.

What are the best things to do in Siófok?

Not questionable that the best thing what can happen to us is attending the IEC programs? But before, after or between the amazing events, don’t miss out to discover the city and take shorter or longer walks to see its calming and relaxing side and feel its springtime vibes.

Siofok Water Tower is over 40 m high and was built in 1912, damaged in World War Two and reconstructed in 2012. Enjoy a 360 degree panoramic view from the top.

Have a loook around this truly unusual, architectural gem, the Lutheran church symbolising that the Cross of Golgotha is not a sign of death rather one showing the path to eternal life. The angel wings above its main entrance protect those who enter.

The word Balaton doesn’t mean only a geographical region for Hungarians, but a chocolate covered wafer sweet named after our beautiful, turquoise coloured Hungarian Sea.
Absolutely worth a try!

With Love,
The IEC team
