Briding Korean Shamanism into Western Medicine

IEC Conference: 2025

This presentation explores the integration of Korean Shamanism into Western medicine and the role of Mudang (Korean shamans) in traditional healing practices. As a practicing Mudang, deeply rooted in this ancestral tradition, I will share insights on how shamanic rituals and spiritual healing methods can serve as complementary approaches to psychology and medical treatment. My perspective is based on years of practice, ongoing studies in Shamanism, and collaborations with anthropologists and religious scholars who continuously observe and assess my work. By bridging these two worlds, we can develop integrative healing approaches that honor both scientific inquiry and spiritual traditions.

Andrea Kalff – Shaman / Mudang –  Teacher & Cultural Bridge in Spirituality

I am Andrea Kalff, an internationally recognized shaman and the first European initiated into the sacred Korean shamanic traditions by the renowned Kim Keum Hwa. Over the years, I have traveled extensively across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, blending ancient spiritual wisdom with modern healing practices. My mission is to bridge cultures in spirituality, creating a global understanding of how ancestral traditions can transform modern lives.

I collaborate closely with psychiatrists, medical professionals, and scientists to build a unique connection between spirituality and science. My journey and teachings have been featured in documentaries, books, and interviews, and I have spoken at major scientific congresses in Taiwan, Israel, and Europe. Currently based in Hawaii, I offer personalized healing sessions, transformative workshops, and retreats to help people release trauma, reclaim their inner power, and embrace holistic well-being. I am passionate about inspiring global audiences and sharing my story of cultural and spiritual transformation.
